Publisher Summary:
"Donatella and Scarlett Dragna escaped their cruel father and made it out of Caraval alive, but the games aren’t over yet. What Scarlett doesn’t know is that, in order to gain their freedom, Tella made a deal with a mysterious stranger and now it’s time to pay. Except what Tella owes is something that no one has ever been able to deliver: the true name of Caraval Master Legend. Tella’s only chance at uncovering Legend’s true identity is to enter the dangerous game of Caraval once more, and win. But what will she have to sacrifice to do that?"
My Review:
Rating: 7.5/10
To start off, I liked Legendary a lot more than Caraval, mainly because I loved Tella's character. She wasn't scared of making decisions and taking risks, and honestly I felt like she fit into with the magic of Caraval more than Scarlett did.
The writing of Legendary was much better, especially because of how Tella acted through the story, and the flow to romantic scenes was much more believable. Adding on to that, in my opinion Tella's love interest was much more interesting than Scarlett's. I felt that the writing was overall more engaging and the pacing was much more well done.
Tella, the main character of Legendary, was more likeable and understandable than Scarlet (the protagonist in the first book). Tella's decisions were much better than Scarlet's, and she seemed to be much more suited to the high stress environment that appears during Caraval. Her romance is better written than that of Scarlet, and her choices around this romance are also pretty logical. I think a big factor that added to Tella's character was that she was originally written (in book 1) as a character who made these crazy decisions, and so it made a lot more sense when she went off on risky adventures.
Overall, I think Legendary was pretty good. To me, there was more magic in the book, which is what I was looking for when I first read it. I think this book made up for some of the things I didn't like in the first one.
